Recurring Payments Tracker

Empowering banks to help customers reduce wasteful spending by tracking recurring payments and redirecting savings into cancelling products.

Director of Product Design

I led design for a net-new product to fit into the financial app portfolio, working hands-on with engineering and product from early exploration through launch.

  • Led ideation, A/B testing, and concept development across multiple design directions
  • Partnered with engineering to understand API data structure and constraints
  • Collaborated with product to align design decisions to capabilities

Subscriptions accumulate, and banks had no way to help

Most consumers have no clear picture of what they are paying for each month. Streaming services, gym memberships, and forgotten trials quietly drain accounts with no central place to track them.

  • No single view of all recurring charges across aggregated accounts
  • Unused subscriptions going unnoticed for months
  • No easy path to cancel or modify payments from within the bank
  • Banks missing an opportunity to turn savings awareness into deposits or investments

Business Need

Give banks a tool that helps customers eliminate wasted spend and redirects those savings into the broader financial product suite.

Design from the data up

Before jumping into visuals, I spent time with engineering to understand what data was actually available through the API. That foundation shaped everything, from how merchants were identified (with their logos) to how cancellation flows were structured, and gave the team clear guardrails to explore concepts quickly without designing into dead ends.

01

API-First Exploration

Mapped available data fields before designing, ensuring every UI element had a reliable data source behind it.

02

Iterative Concept Development

Explored multiple layout and interaction models through rapid wireframes, testing ideas early before investing in high-fidelity work.

03

Competitive Analysis

Audited leading subscription management apps to identify patterns worth adopting and gaps worth owning.

Testing our way to the right direction

We started with Wireframe 1. After launching, we uncovered technical constraints that required us to go back and explore alternatives. We used AI tools to generate different variations quickly, then tested a few directions through Maze before deciding to move forward with the final design.

A tool that turns awareness into action

The Recurring Payments Tracker gave customers full visibility into their recurring charges for the first time, and created a natural bridge back into the broader PFM suite. The tool opened a direct path to redirect identified savings into adjacent financial applications like a bank's Savings product — turning subscription awareness into measurable deposit opportunity.
